Why Davidson Homeowners Choose Total Garage

Davidson is one of the more architecturally varied corners of the Charlotte metro. A garage project on South Street looks nothing like a project in River Run or one in the Davidson Pointe area. We measure each garage independently, account for the door clearances and panel placements that older homes complicate, and produce a 3D rendering before any material is ordered. Lake Norman crews work the 28036 area weekly, often pairing Davidson installs with adjacent Cornelius and Huntersville projects on the same day.

Davidson Garage Storage Questions

Do you work with older Davidson homes that have detached or carriage-style garages?
Yes. Detached garages are common in the historic core of Davidson, and we have installed cabinetry, slatwall, and overhead racks in carriage-style buildings dating back to the 1940s. Older structures sometimes have ceiling height variations, exposed framing, or non-standard wall thickness, all of which we measure and design around.
Can you install over a previously coated garage floor?
Sometimes, but it depends on the existing coating. If the prior coat is sound, well-bonded, and compatible with our system, we can install cabinetry and storage directly on top. If the coat is failing or peeling, we recommend grinding back to clean concrete and starting fresh. We give a written assessment at the consultation.
How does the cabinetry attach to a wall with shiplap or plank paneling?
We mount to the wall studs through the paneling. Standard cabinet hanging cleats engage the framing behind decorative paneling, so the load path is into the structure, not into the trim. We protect the paneling with painters tape and edge guards during install and verify mounting torque after every cabinet is hung.
Will the install crew protect my hardwood floors and existing finishes?
Yes. Floor protection is part of our standard process. We run rosin paper and ram-board across hardwood, tile, or LVP from the entry point to the work area, and we use furniture pads on any cabinet box during transit. Walls along the path get corner guards. Final cleanup includes vacuuming and a walk-through with you.
Do you offer lake-house specific finishes for Davidson Lake Norman properties?
Yes. Our marine-friendly finish line uses a polyaspartic topcoat with elevated UV and humidity resistance. For lake-adjacent garages where boat trailers, kayaks, and wet equipment cycle through, we recommend the polyaspartic topcoat over a polyurea base, plus stainless or oil-rubbed bronze hardware for corrosion resistance.
Can you install garage doors or motorized lifts at the same time?
We do not install garage doors directly, but we coordinate with door installers in the Lake Norman area and can sequence the work so the door is replaced before the floor is coated. Motorized overhead lifts (350 lb capacity) we install ourselves as part of the storage system.
